Have A Heart?
A responsive installation completed by human touch, where a viewer’s pulse lends life to a machine across three CRT screens.
Have A Heart? explores technology as a space for connection rather than distance. The installation only fully activates through human touch: when a viewer holds one of the mannequin hands, a heart-rate sensor reads their pulse and feeds it into the visual system across three CRT screens.
The viewer becomes part of the circuit, briefly lending life to the machine as the visuals awaken and respond to their presence.
The work draws a parallel between electronic circuits and human communities, both dependent on connection and inter-reliance. Through responsive imagery and fragments of text that appear to speak back to the viewer, Have A Heart? looks for tenderness and humanity reflected through technology.
Circuits mirror human communities, and our reliance on one another can never be replaced by a machine, because what is a machine without a heart?
